Game measurement and comparison

A useful measurement starts with a defined quantity and the question it is intended to answer.

The synthetic interval example shows how equal full-sequence average FPS can coexist with different extremes and timing order. A percentile, maximum and exceeding-interval time share describe different aspects of the same sequence rather than a universal smoothness score.

Use the frame-time and input guides for focused checks. Match the task and measurement definition before comparing results, keep observations separate from hardware diagnoses and do not treat the synthetic example as a measured result for a particular game or device.
